LARNE RURAL PROJECT FOR POSITIVE ACTIVISM
This Project was a development of an earlier project
funded by the
Community Foundation for Northern Ireland through
Measure 2.7
Building Community Capacity and Promoting Active
Citizenship.
The original project covered three of Larne Borough
Council’s wards, Kilwaughter, Cairncastle & Glynn.
The new project encompassed
two new areas for development, Ballycarry & Islandmagee.
The Project Aims: The Project had the following aims:
• To baseline needs of new areas
• To assist new and existing wards with the
implementation
of community
activities within their area.
• To set up an active citizenship programme for young
people
• To collaborate with statutory bodies to promote access
to services
and resources
• To deliver environmental projects to attract visitors
to these rural
area to promote economic growth
• To create a network for groups in Rural Larne
supported by the
North Antrim Community Network
• To continue engagement with paramilitaries to reduce
political
tensions and enable community activity thus reconciling
community representatives
• To host networking events to engage communities in
good
practice sharing
• To provide formal capacity building training in house
and
education from other providers To empower individual capacity
and create a skills base from which unassisted development
can grow
• To work on implementation 2 capital projects for Glynn
and
Millbrook.
